LAPD Announces DUI Enforcement for Cinco de Mayo Weekend

Posted by Robert Berglund | May 03, 2019 | 0 Comments

Expect to see law enforcement officers throughout Los Angeles County on heightened patrol this weekend as thousands of Angelenos celebrate Cinco de Mayo weekend.  Events are planned throughout the Southland, including many fight parties for the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs boxing match.  Law enforcement officers will be looking for drunk drivers.  As explained on our DUI CHECKPOINTS page, officers are allowed to randomly stop motorists to check for signs of impairment as long as they follow certain guidelines.  Checkpoints are frequently scheduled on holiday weekends when there are likely to be more people taking time off and consuming alcohol.

In its press release earlier this week announcing DUI enforcement this weekend, the LAPD issued the following statement: "Over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, the Los Angeles Police Department will have additional officers on patrol ready to stop and arrest drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In addition, the LAPD will hold DUI/driver license checkpoints at multiple locations throughout the City." LAPD also warns drivers that any substance, legal or not, that impairs your ability to safely drive can result in you being arrested for DUI.
